Near Gatten Wedding Photography: mudbath averted.
Fiona and Tom arrived in Shropshire from London 24 hours before their wedding to the news that the field they had booked for their rustic marquee reception was totally waterlogged. After several days of torrential downpours, the topsoil had completely washed away, and it was looking like they would have to find an alternative venue as the mudbath was so bad that the marquee was proving difficult to put up!
Luckily, the owners of Near Gatten Weddings donated all the cut hay from another field to lay down on top of the mud, and with the help of the entire wedding party, the day was saved with hours to spare!

Come Saturday, there was no sign of the post-apocalyptic weather that we had been enduring, and as Fiona and Tom said their vows at Clun church the blue sky was full of picture perfect puffy white clouds. The wedding really personal in so many ways - from friends doing the flowers, to Tom’s dad conducting the ceremony, and friends from Pop-up Opera… well, popping up with opera as they signed the register. And all this was happening in the church Fiona’s parents had been married in, and where her mum is now buried.
Rustic reception at Near Gatten Weddings.
On arriving at Near Gatten Farm Weddings, Ratlinghope, guests were none the wiser about the mudbath that had greeted Tom and Fiona the day before - the cut hay almost passed for grass, and the marquee stayed standing!
Fiona and Tom had chosen a rustic banquet style wedding set up, with long banquet tables adorned with wildflowers and pottery handmade by their friend. Guests ate a buffet provided by Hancock’s Meadow Farm, from biodegradable banana leaf plates which Fiona had pyrographed guests names on!
Later on in the evening, the post-apocalyptic weather returned in the form of a thick bank of mist just as everyone was getting stuck into the ceilidh, accompanied by Wild Edric ceilidh band.
